About Laxmi Vilas Palace
Located at a distance of 190 kms from Delhi and 55 kms from Agra in the historical town of Bharatpur (Rajasthan), the Laxmi Vilas Palace was built in the year 1899 by the then ruler of Bharatpur, Maharaja Ram Singh for his younger brother Raja Raghunath Singh. The palace is spread in an area of 50 acres and is bordered by mustard fields. Earlier known as the Raghunath Niwas, this palace is now more popularly called by the localites as Kakaji ki kothi.

Today, the palace serves as hotel and draws innumerable tourists to enjoy its picturesque surroundings and warm hospitality.


Architecture of Laxmi Vilas Palace
The palace is a wonderful combination of the Rajput and Mughal architecture and bears close resemblance to the Rani Kishori palace, Rani Laxmi Kunj and Mahal Khas (palace private) inside the mighty Iron fort of Bharatpur. There are two spacious courtyard out of which one was used by the queens and her entourage. All the roms have a broad openings on both side with canopies in minarets. The rooms are adorned with frescos of bright herbal paints depicting the lilas of Lord Krishna. The courtyard also boasts of marble fountain and lovely cupolas.

The palace has a single entrance which is a highly embellished sanstone pathway provided the ladies to get away quietly without attracting the attention of prying eyes.

The palace was converted into a heritage hotel in theyear 1994. Since then every succeeding year has witnessed a increase in the number of visitors to this hotel. The rooms of the palace are pleasing and comfortable arousing in the tourists, a feeling of living in a royal era. The rooms, though decorated in a traditional manner has all tthe modern amenities for the convenience of the tourists like air -conditon and colour television along with an attatched bathroom.

The foods offered at the hotel - a mix of traditional and continental cuisine, is thoroughly enjoyed by the tourists. There is also a swimming pool and a children’s pool in the hotel.
