Ornate Camels, decorated Cows, Sheep and horses and their proud owner men attired in short kurta, pyajama and turban while the women in traditional ghagra-choli with lots of ornaments on their body! This is Pushkar Cattle fair at Pushkar in Rajasthan, where everybody seems to be happy and excited, very much like an elated child. A week long colourful Pushkar fair, which is more of the largest cattle trade fair in the world, is held every year in the month of November and reflects the life, tradition and culture of Rajasthan, thereby making it a significant occasion.

Pushkar Fair, RajasthanThe Pushkar fair not only give a break to the villagers of Rajasthan from a harsh desert life, but at the same time bring all of them closer to one another by sharing their experiences, joys and happiness. Besides, the Pushkar fair also occupies a significant place as per the Hindu mythology as it is held every year during Kartik Purnima or the full moon day in the month of the November, which is considered as an auspicious day to have a holy dip in the divine Pushkar lake.


Events
Considered as the world's largest cattle fair, the Pushkar fair is marked by sell and purchase of cattle...though a bit by bargain, for the first five days of the fair. The garments, beads, tattoo, food and jewellery stalls are another attractions of the fair. However, the main attractions of the fair are related to the King of Desert - Camel. The camels, who are decorated by their masters in fine jewelleries, beads and clothes, happily participate in Camel race, musical chair and beauty contest.

» Airways - The nearest airport is at the capital city of Rajasthan - Jaipur, 138 kilometers away. The Sanganer airport of Jaipur is well connected with daily flights to Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, Bangalore and Chennai.
» Railways - Ajmer(14 km), which is the Gateway to Pushkar, is the nearest railhead, and connected with other cities of Rajasthan, Delhi and Gujrat by a good railway network.
» Roadways - Pushkar is well connected to other cities of Rajasthan via Ajmer by regular bus, coach and taxi services.
