Surrounded by the rivers Chambal in the South and Banas in the North lies the famous Ranthambore National Park. Once the hunting preserve of the Maharajas of Jaipur, it was decalred a wildlife sanctuary in 1955 and became part of the Project Tiger in 1973. One of the most filmed wildlife reserves in the world, the park is famous for its tigers and one can witness these magnificent predators stride about majestically around the park.

Covering an area of about 1,334 sq. km, its rugged terrain and dense deciduous forests are major features of this national park. The park has a rich diversity of fauna and flora and is home to a large numbers of Sambar, Chital, Nilgai, Gazzelle, Boars, Mongoose, Indian Hare, Monitor Lizards, various reptiles and to around 370 speices of birds .

The Ranthambhore park is named after the Ranthambhore Fort, that stands majestically atop a hill overlooking the entire park. Dating back to the 10th century , the fort offers a picturesque view of the sorrounding areas.
