sharp cliffs and long narrow valleys.

The landscape of Sariska comprises of hills and narrow valleys of the
Aravali hill range. The topography of Sariska supports scrub-thorn arid
forests, dry deciduous forests, rocks and grasses. The broad range of
wildlife here is a wonderful example of ecological adoption and tolerance,
for the climate here is variable as well as erratic.
About The Sariska National Park
Sariska Tiger Reserve was established in 1978. The area was declared a
sanctuary in 1955 and became a National Park in 1979. The present area of
the Reserve is 866 sq. km. In the pre-independence period, the forests
within the Reserve were a part of the erstwhile Alwar State and were
maintained as a hunting preserve for the royalty. After independence, these
were first notified as a Reserve, wherein it was unlawful to hunt, shoot,
net, trap, snare, capture or kill any kind of wild animals in 1955.
The Reserve status was upgraded to a Sanctuary in 1958. Later, in view of
the preservation of wild animals in a better way, a few forest areas
contiguous to the Sanctuary were also incorporated. The primary notification
to declare part of the core as National Park was issued in 1982. The final
notification is pending in view of the need to relocate a few villages from
the Park.
