About Jaisalmer

Places to see in Jaisalmer

Jaisalmer Fort
The Golden Fort of Rajasthan i.e. the Jaisalmer Fort is the most significant and thus an indispensable part of Jaisalmer’s tourism. The historic feel arising from each of its elements, its gigantic size and the serene environment, Jaisalmer Fort has always attained the utmost attention from all its visitors. 

This fort was established by the Rajput ruler who was there during 1156 AD Raja Jaisal. Counted amongst the largest forts globally, this magical site has a daunting look with the golden as well as yellow sandstone work complimenting to its physical appearance. Even after so many years of its existence, the fort still stands upright proudly displaying the commendable Rajasthani architecture. Not only you are going to experience the beauty of this monument, but also you can stroll through the market located nearby, shop there and eat from the varied eateries. 

Patwon ki Haveli 
The Jaisalmer Fort comes at the foremost position when it is talked about the most famous places to visit in Jaisalmer and following it is the second most renowned Patwon ki Haveli. It is quite distinct since this is not solely a single Haveli instead it is a combination of five huge sized Havelis. 

Each of these havelis has a distinct characteristic that is more than enough to distinguish them from one another. The out of the box architectural designs and the picturization of different stories through its walls and gateways make this attraction the most important one in Rajasthan’s tourism. It has been made with the use of yellow sandstone carrying along a wonderful design leaving the viewers speechless. Sam Sand Dunes
Enough of sightseeing tours and just in case, you are looking forward to get some unique fun and get a feel of the Desert then nothing’s best than the ultimate Desert Safari. The most perfect place to undertake the enjoyable and thrill filled Desert Safari is the much famous Sam Sand Dunes. 

Ride on a camelback with the surroundings filled up with sand and walk through the troughs and crests. Also, experience the heart stealing sunset view from this place. Those who have a fear of the riding on the back of these silent creatures also have an option here. They can opt to tour in a Jeep safari and if you are lucky enough and present here during the months of February and March, then you can also be a part of the vibrant Desert Festival. It includes the camel races, folk dances and other relatable traditional activities.


How to Reach Jaisalmer

By Air : The airport is situated 5 km from the heart of the city and is well connected by air with New Delhi, Jaipur and Jodhpur, though it is run by the Indian Air Force and works only from September to March. So Jodhpur airport at a distance of approximately 285 km is the better choice.


By Rail : Well linked by rail with Jodhpur as well as other chief towns of India including Agra, Jaipur, New Delhi and Mumbai.


By Bus : Has a good system of roads and is well linked with other towns of Rajasthan including Jaipur, Jodhpur and Bikaner and chief towns of India.

Climate And Weather

As notified, the climate of Jaisalmer is highly influenced by the expanded Thar desert inside which this city is located. The summers here are too hot whereas the wintertime is too cool. During the summertime, the temperature ranges somewhere in between 40-45 degrees Celsius however, at night it may go below to 25 degrees Celsius. On the other hand, the winters here are quite dry and cold too, thus the temperature may go as low as 24 degrees Celsius and at night it is at around 5-7 degrees Celsius.


Getting Around Jaisalmer

There is no local transportation bus service provided in Jaisalmer, but the travellers can seek assistance from the private vehicles’ companies who will arrange the transportation for your sightseeing tour in Jaisalmer. 

The auto-rickshaws serve as a great aid for the tourists who need to commute from one place to another within this city for the sightseeing purposes or travelling to another towns. 

Also, a good number of private and government cabs are available with the govt. ones having a fixed price and the private cabs might have a high price.
